2-man IDS farm - Is it possible?
Many of you are probably aware of the powerful potential of the Vengeful Was Khanhei solo Ritualist.
Perhaps some of you have also seen that while it works great against melee enemies, it is also possible to farm spell casters if done correctly (Ancestor's and Sympathetic Visage FTW).
So I figured that a VWK rit would be a good place to start for farming Ice Imps.
But when you've got 12 Maestroms on you all at once, it's impossible to keep your spells active. And even with Mantra of Frost dulling down the cold damage, you probably wouldn't last more than 10 seconds.
Therefore, solo farming for an IDS is pretty much impossible to my knowledge.
But it's so close to being possible, all you need is something to interrupt all those Ice Imp spells long enough to where they lose most of their energy, and so that you can have your ashes handy when the physical attacks start coming.
By that time, it's just like farming Trolls.
Hm, I seem to recall Monks having a handy little elite that causes spells on a target ally to fail for a certain amount of time. And with a Mesmer secondary, they could Arcane Echo it for good measure.
Heck, why not throw in some smite and protection skills as well? Zealot's Fire and Reversal of Fortune would probably do nicely.
So here's what I'm proposing.
Get a Monk and a Ritualist together. Have the Ritualist run a Rt/Me VWK build, and the Monk run a Mo/Me SB build.
Try to run through most of Mineral Springs if you can. If you can't, always send the Ritualist into battle first so they can suck up all the damage, and have the Monk sit in the background and play support. Spell Breaker should help get the Avicara Mesmers off the Ritualist's back. You shouldn't have to worry much about the Ritualist's ability to tank, because I've used mine to go toe-to-toe with Avicara before when making my way to the Troll cave.
Upon entering the Ice Imp cave, prepare as normal, but make sure the Ritualist has SB on them before they go and aggro all the Imps. Aggro the Imps, get them in a nice tight group, make sure all your enchantments are active, and start spamming Vengeful Was Khanhei, Vengeful Weapon, and Reversal of Fortune.
Within a few minutes, you should be standing over a large pile of dead Ice Imps, and hopefully a shiny new Icy Dragon Sword.
I don't have a good Monk friend handy, so that explains why I'm not already able to tell you whether or not it works. Instead, I'm relying on you guys to try and make this idea a reality, or at least report flaws if there are any.
Happy farming.

if you aggro the imps properly i have no doubt you can solo it with a vwk build. i.e. wand but no spells.

Didn't they also put Ice Golems and Mountain Trolls inside the cave too?

Yup. And don't forget the Eldon. Consider Mo/R for a SpellBreaker Chain. I hear that works quite well. GL with tis, but, as 55 monks and Wa/Mes can solo the imps, trolls, et al, i don't see too much play for duo farmers in hardcore runs for this weapon.

Mountain Trolls aren't a problem for a Rt/Me.
Ice Golems are only annoying if you use signets or move around a lot, which is not the idea behind a Rt/Me solo farm build.

I must be really out of the loop, because I'd normally expect a 55 monk to have problems with Ice Imps.
And while a W/Me probably doesn't have any problems at all with Ice Imps, I'm wondering how they survive the Avicara and Ice Golems.

Once upon a time...
Of course now you gotta add 10 to all those beautiful 0's and 1's, which breaks my heart. I'm so glad I'm already rich, because making a fortune now would be a pain...

Oh, I see. The solution is as simple as just running past them.
I guess evading Water Trident isn't as tough as I thought it would be.

I don't know if you are specifically looking for a ritualist solo farm for ids, but it is fairly easily soloable with a warrior mesmer. I did it quite often months ago, but alas the drops typically suck (except for the one time I got 3 in one run ^^)
Either way, I cant remember the whole build, but I think it goes something like this:goos
Sprint
Charge
Elemental Resistence
Healing Sig
Sever Artery
Gash
Dolyaks Signet
(I forget the name of the last skill but its the +20 armor shout)
Anyways, I am pretty sure that is it - as long as the spawns are good, its a fairly easy run.
Good Luck

i donno soloing ids takes a while and drops are so scarce, so i dont usually do it.

W/Mo can solo the WHole CAve without problem. But W/me is kinda hard with rust but i dunno. So this thread how in the world do you gonna get to the cave with a rit? Maybe RT/R not me

The easiest I find for solo IDS farming is R/Me. Poison and mantra of frost ftw.
There are only 2 problem areas, the rock throwing giants by the respawn/hill and the azura shadows inside the cave as you go up to the top where you get infused. If you get past the giants, which 9 times out of 10 you do, then you can clear the cave no problem, just don't try to go up after clearing the cave. Just use hit and run poison tactics on the avicara and take a firey bow string for ice golems.
I've got 4 IDS so far using this method. I can post a screenie with the full build on it if anyone needs it.

Or you can just use 55 monk or R/me or R/x or W/mo or W/me (i think that dont work so well). I recommend 55 monk that is the fastest way to farm them.

Care to share the build? I allways used a W/Me before and with the damage reduction change I can't get it to work as well as before.

Balthazars Spirit
Dolyak
Defy Pain
Watch Yourself
Sprint
Desperation Blow
8 Healing
14 Strength
9 axe/sword
11 tactics
something like that I think
Also Rt/Me could bring mantra of persistance and channeling. Mantra for cancelling interrupts and channeling to regain some energy. Not sure if it will work though. Somebody try it.

Well me and a guildy can quite happily famn them 2 man with a warrior using elemental resistance and dolyaks with a monk in support set up for running. All the monk has to do is maintain spell breaker on the warrior whilst the warrior tanks away doing as much damage as possible. Spell breaker prevents rust and maelstrome making it easy for the warrior to tank and farm.
